  • Rubio Pushes Back Debut … Will NBA-Sim Follow Suit?

Yesterday, uber-hyped Spanish baller, Ricky Rubio, decided to spurn the Minnesota Timberwolves – who had selected him in the 2009 NBA Draft – and remain in the Spanish basketball league. The terms of his deal appear to be that he won’t be seeing playing time in the North Star State or the NBA until 2011.

Ugh. Too bad. I would’ve loved to see his flashy point guard ways and see if he really was as brilliant as claimed. Even if he was just average he probably would’ve instantly made the NBA Sim Minnesota Timberwolves team over 1991 Pooh Richardson.

Ah, well. So Rubio will be arriving much later than originally planned, but will the 2009 NBA Sim Tournament? Well, in my last post I casually estimated the beginning of the 2009 NBA Sim Tournament to begin in a month (roughly September 16th). Now, while that’s still possibly (I mean, that date is still technically in the future), I’m not so sure that deadline will be made.

While I am on the tail end of the initial, research step of this whole process I still have a few things on my agenda to accomplish. Here’s the quick rundown:

    # Task Completion % Estimated Completion Date
    1a Process play-by-play data from basketballvalue.com from 2007-2009 100% N/A
1b Create shot charts based on this processed data 33% 9/1/2009
    2 Process shot chart data 82games.com from 2003-2009 12.7% 9/18/2009
    3 Add OffRtg/DefRtg to all selected Legends 0% 9/11/2009
4 Create body type formula based on height 0% 9/3/2009
5 Find player clones for 2007-2009 (add field to database) 0% 9/11/2009
    6 Calculate player’s Attributes/Tendencies 0% 9/20/2009
    7 Calculate Team Sliders 0% 9/20/2009

After that, I plan to make all the players and teams to see who is the strongest and seed accordingly. Then, let the sim begin!
